medium: paper. This is for my 3D design class. The assignment was to explore the interplay between interior and exterior form. I wanted to create a sort of paper chrysalis, with the organic shapes contrasting the cube form they are in. The butterfly is a symbol for the soul, and the Chinese symbol stands for spirit. I was sort of playing with the idea of a delicate, graceful, beautiful soul housed in an earthly body.

medium: steel and plastic forks. This was my second module project. Here the assignment was to use a rigid module, so I chose plasitc forks. They are glued to three wires spiraling out of the base, forming a sort of triple helix. I wanted to create a flame-like form, with the pointed forks and graceful lines combining to form a sort of "dangerous beauty." My friend, Liz, said it also looks like a flock of startled birds taking flight. I like both concepts a lot.
medium: clay, leather cord, and a branch. This assignment was the last one. It emphasized unique joinery and had to have a kinetic aspect. This is supposed to hang, perhaps on a wall. I used leather cord as my joining material, tying each piece together. The kinetic aspect is that it would move if a wind blew it. (It is pretty heavy, so it would take a strong wind!)

leaf detail. I used real leaves and pressed them into the clay using a rolling pin.
This was for my 2D design class. The assignment was to use Adobe Illustrator to "draw" a fruit or a vegetable, and then to design some sort of poster for it. I chose an orange, and with the poster I was going for a retro, 50's look.
This is one of the sketches from my figure drawing class. We have been working on 15 hour poses for most of the class, but this is from a week when we did gesture drawings. This one was a longer pose, 30 min. Most of the time we did 10 minute poses. If you go too long, the models move a lot because they get tired, and it's hard to draw them accurately.
I also have to do out of class sketching for my figure drawing class. I had Loren come over and pose for me. (Oh, the conveniency of having a twin!) Both of these were 15 minute poses.
medium: clay and board. This was my first assignment for 3D design. We made a form, and then made a mold of that form. We then cast several "modules" to put together to form a sculpture. I tried to pull my design from nature. I didn't specifically make a flower or a leaf. Instead, I tried to use the lines and shapes of natural things.
