Clark turns 16 years old…

Happy Birthday to Clark, who is now old enough to drive, date, and become a Priest. Ha ha…sounds kinda funny for a Priest to start dating!

Our final driver gets his license

The day did finally arrive and I can say that while I congratulate Clark on receiving his driver’s license, I congratulate Alan and myself on surviving 6 student drivers and all that entails…driver’s ed fees, endless gallons of gas, driving 240 hours, 12 visits to the DMV, higher insurance rates and endless “exciting” moments in the passenger seat trying to make calm suggestions regarding braking, stopping, looking, looking again….

And so, after driving kids to and from everything for nearly 28 years, I am officially finished being the family chauffeur!

Also as a result of turning 16 years old, Clark was ordained to the office of a Priest in the Aaronic Priesthood. That Sunday, he, Alan and Elliot all blessed the sacrament together in sacrament meeting. It made my mommy heart happy!

Birthdays for Loren, Phillip and Tess

Of course Loren and Phillip share a birthday, and Tess’s is just a few days later, so we decided to combine birthdays and celebrate with dinner and presents on the deck.  It doesn’t sound exciting, but it was for me because I had recently taken on the job of power washing and staining the deck.  And with all the cold wet weather we have had this spring, it was so fun for me to have our birthday party on a warm beautiful day on “my” newly stained deck!

Happy Birthday to Loren (26), Phillip (26) and Tess (23)

April Birthdays

Madeleine is no longer a teenager!  She hit the big 20 this year!  You know your kids are grown up when they ask for things like a voice recorder and the Chicago Manual of Style for their birthday and actually get super excited when they get them!

As we often do, we celebrated Madeleine’s and Alan’s birthdays together — this time on Madeleine’s actual birthday.  But I did make Alan halusky (his favorite dinner) closer to his birthday — which by the way started out with four inches of snow on the ground!

Elliot’s 17th Birthday

This year Elliot turned 17 years old.  He has now graduated in my book to a “fairly experienced driver” and he did get through his first winter of driving in the snow unscathed, so I am able to quit worrying about him (for the most part 🙂 )

Gifts for Elliot always seem to have a BYU theme and this birthday was no exception!  He is still the biggest fan in the family and he hasn’t even gone to school there yet!

Michelene’s Birthday Weekend

And so I’m older.  But I guess that’s good, because that means I am still here – right?!  Aside from being sick in bed with bronchitis the whole week before my birthday, for the most part, I enjoy really good health.  I feel lucky that at this point everything still seems to be “working” for me.  My birthday weekend we decided to have “get-a-way” by staying here and sending the boys down to Provo to play with their sibs.  I didn’t feel great, but we enjoyed watching movies, eating yummy food, reading and resting.

We also worked on finishing up some family history work and getting some names ready for temple work.  It was nice to spend the weekend together on our own, but it also made me a bit sad to realize that we are getting closer and closer to living in this house all by ourselves.  I was kind of glad to have the boys come home :). We celebrated my birthday on President’s Day and the Provo kids came up for another round of dinner and presents.  It’s always fun to have everyone here for a few hours.
